LIC Arts Open

Artists across the borough are getting ready to showcase their work in this year’s LIC Arts Open, an exciting nine-day celebration of the Queens neighborhood’s burgeoning and buzzing arts scene that runs from May 15-19. On the staggering menu of events are visual art, music, theatre, comedy, dance, film, and much more. An annual event held in conjunction with PS/1 MOMA, LIC Arts Open aims to bridge the gap between artists, creatives, local residents and tourists, and the art-buying sector.

So support your community + the arts and come visit the many exhibitions, shows, events and open studios.

What is I Love My Park Day?

I Love My Park Day is an exciting statewide event in its second year. Volunteers from across the state will participate in cleanup, improvement, and beautification events at New York State parks and historic sites.
Thousands of volunteers from across the state will participate in cleanup, improvement and beautification events at New York State parks and historic sites. This is the second year volunteers will partake in this celebration of New York’s state park system by cleaning up park lands and beaches, planting trees and gardens, restoring trails and wildlife habitat, removing invasive species, and working on various site improvement projects.

Why Hold an I Love My Park Day?

New Yorkers love their parks. Thousands of volunteers are willing to help maintain the beauty of New York’s treasured state parks and historic sites. Friends groups and volunteers are more important than ever to keep parks beautiful, clean, and welcoming for all to visit and enjoy. Last year, Governor Cuomo issued a proclamation celebrating the first Saturday in May as I Love My Park Day and encouraging New Yorkers to join in this statewide volunteer effort.

How is it Organized?

Parks & Trails New York – in partnership with the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation (OPRHP) and local friends groups – will coordinate the event on the statewide level, providing outreach, promotion, technical assistance and how-to organizers’ kits for friends groups to use for their individual events. Friends groups and park staff will oversee cleanup, improvement and beautification projects and work with volunteers.
